From the Faculty Lounge: Art and Memoir

April 4, 2017

Enjoy an intimate conversation between Hisham Matar, 2017 Pulitzer Prize, PEN/Jean Stein Book Award, and the inaugural Rathbones Folio Prize winner, and Rachel Eisendrath as they discuss Matar’s newest book. Detailing Matar's journey to his native Libya in search of answers on his father's imprisonment and disappearance, The Return: Fathers, Sons, and the Land in Between gives voice to someone who is not quite in the present, but not quite in the past.  Matar, The Weiss International Fellow in Literature and the Arts and Adjunct Associate Professor in the English Department, reminisces with Eisendrath, Assistant Professor of English and Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Studies, about his father and the journey he took searching for answers. This installment of “From the Faculty Lounge” delves into writing, parent/child relationships, and the literary elements found in The Return, with an introduction by Provost Linda Bell.

'From the Faculty Lounge' is a series of conversations, filmed live, among Barnard faculty members from different disciplines on their intersecting interests. For more upcoming events, visit the events page.
