The offering in English is designed to foster good writing, effective speaking, and heightened understanding of culturally significant texts.  We encourage students majoring in English to develop their responsiveness to the literary imagination and their sensitivity to literary form through disciplined attention to language, historical contexts, and to critical and scholarly methods.

Monica Miller celebrates Quandra Prettyman in the Barnard Magazine featuring Africana Studies.  Both are members of Barnard's English Department as well as teaching Africana Studies.

The Provost has announced that Patricia Denison will serve as Associate Provost for another three years, causing changes in the 2014-15 course offerings.  Check if your program is affected.

Congratulations to our majors winning college awards and the 2014 winners of the English Department's student prizes,  including Carmen Ren receiving the inaugural Axinn Foundation/Anna Quindlen Award.
