Nina and Alex will discuss their shared life in letters, from MFA classmates to writing center cubemates into teaching lives at Barnard and beyond. They’ll explore what it means to find true love and true community within and without these spaces. Readings from Sharma, Watson and Barnard Creative Writing Fellows. Stand-up comedy from Ihea Inyama. Thoughts on writing life from all! About the Speakers: Nina Sharma's debut memoir The Way You Make Me Feel: Love in Black and Brown came out on Penguin Press in 2024. Her humor writing and essays have been published in The New Yorker, The Los Angeles Times, Electric Literature and Harper's Bazaar and elsewhere. Formerly the Programs Director of the Asian American Writers' Workshop, she currently teaches at Barnard College and Columbia University. Alex Watson is a fiction writer and poet from Syracuse, New York. She is a cofounder of Apogee Journal, a Whiting literary magazine prize winner. She teaches first-year writing and creative writing at Barnard, where she founded the Cite Black Barnard Initiative and the Creative Writing Fellows program. Her work can be found at The Nation, the South Carolina Review, the Bennington Review, the Offing, and elsewhere. Ihea Inyama (he/him) is a comedian, writer, and actor from Ewing, New Jersey. He is a co-creator and star of the web series i’m so happy for you!!!!!!.
